This is an older grainy shrinkwrapped hand printed silver halide photograph, ( custom printed in a darkroom from a copy negative from the original, not retouched as you see here, archivally developed in chemistry on Ilford 'Pearl' surface semi-matte surface black & white photographic paper, shrink wrapped, cropped, and
mounted on a black 8x10 inch black backing board
with caption and photography information on the back of 1870's(??) Honolulu with Diamond Head crater (ancient volcano) in the background. This may be one of the first photos taken of the area. It has not been retouched or manipulated, and not good quality but a very important historical photo.
Please be aware that this photo is unlike newer computer digital prints because the original was shot on older grainy black and white film and printed from a copy negative and when enlarged will look grainier.
It has the unique look of a silver halide gelatin photo, and is still a very nice historic and artistic print.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes historic images of Hawaii. They are popular affordable decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.

This photo is printed on non-glossy semi-matte 'pearl' surface paper and the photo offered has more gray tones, deep, richer blacks, less contrast, and has the unique look of a real silver halide gelatin print, which has a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. Please be aware of this. You may be able to see small imperfections on larger images as these are printed by hand 'as is' and are not retouched. We do however try to crop and correct them so they look best. It is printed on 8x10 inch paper from a copy negative and margins may be slightly trimmed.
**When it is cropped and attached to the single mat 8X10" backing board you will be able to see the black backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a wider margin at the top and bottom edges of the photo which you can see here.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using an archival photo adhesive and cannot easily be removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. If you want to use a larger frame and mat and you can't find an experienced framer who knows how to do it, contact us and we can provide information explaining how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10" frame and displaying the image as is.
