(see photo), with caption and photography information on the back of the Ainahau Hotel, (1915) in Waikiki which was the former home of Princess Ka'iulani. It was built by Archibald S. Cleghorn when Ka'iulani was away in England being educated.
It had the most famous garden (10 acres) in Hawaii at the time and was given to the territorial government by Cleghorn when he died but the territory rejected it. This was built in the Victorian style of architecture that was popular at the time. This photo was taken before it burned to the ground, an unfortunate loss to Hawaii's heritage. It is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage, has photography and preservation tips included in the label on the back and is a very popular photo with visitors here in Hawaii, and comes with complete caption information on the back of the photo.
It would make a great gift for someone who likes Waikiki or historic building images of Hawaii. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
Today Waikiki is the tourism hub of Honolulu and is visited by millions of visitors year round. It is Hawaii's most famous urban coastline and the most crowded stretch of surfing breaks in Hawaii, with beginners, experts, outrigger canoes, swimmers, snorkelers, body boarders, and sun bathers, sharing nearly a 5 mile stretch of beaches. Its spectacular hotels, a myriad of night spots, restaurants, and a wealth of shopping add to its appeal. With brilliantly colored tropical ocean colors, soft white sandy beaches, blue skies, a shoreline lined with coconut palms, exclusive hotels, and Diamond Head (Leahi) crater as a backdrop, it is one of the most photographed and popular travel destinations in the world.
Our hand printed silver halide gelatin original and reproduction photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii.
The photos are the 'old style' traditional film based images printed using an enlarger from a negative on real photographic paper and archivally processed by hand, not by a machine. Prices are less than you would pay retail at a gallery or custom photo lab for a hand printed and mounted silver halide black and white print and production costs are lower than most folks so we want to offer affordable quality art for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE
:
e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen makes the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. This photo is printed on non-glossy semi-matte 'pearl' surface paper and the photo offered has more gray tones, deep, richer blacks, less contrast, and has the unique look of a real silver halide gelatin print, which has a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. We do however try to crop and correct them so they look best. It is printed on 8x10 inch paper from a 35 mm copy negative and margins may be slightly trimmed. **When it is attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the white backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a margin around the edges of the photo which you can see here.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using an archival photo adhesive and cannot easily be removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. If you want to use a larger frame and mat and you can't find an experienced framer who knows how to do it, contact us and we can provide information explaining how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10" frame and displaying the image as is.
