Description
If you collect kaleidoscopes, you must have a replica of the very first one invented. It is 8 3/8" long and 2" wide. Made of brass, it is quite sturdy. There is a little corrosion at one end that may be polished off. The display is what I assume are bits of colored glass. The enclosed description is hard to read. It says; "The 1816 Kaleidoscope. Invented in 1816 by the Scottish Physicist, Sir David Brewster, 'for producing attractive symetrical and geometrical patterns and designs.' This is a reproduction of the cased glass kaleidoscopes made in Scotland and America in the early eighteenth century. It is hand crafted today in Utah by descendants of Scottish artisans." Note the enclosed description should say 19th century since the 18th century is before the kaleidoscope was invented. Symmetrical should also have 2 m's. It comes with a nice wood display case lined with a soft material.
