This is a beautiful quality mounted giclee photo printed with archival ink on Epson glossy premium photo paper from an original Velvia transparency
cropped to fit a single 8x10 mat board **which is included as part of the print, and the white line is part of the print and not a mat cutout (see photo)
of a
pre-dawn double rainbow at Waimea Bay on the day of the 1992 Eddie Aikau Memorial Big Wave Surfing contest
, Haleiwa, North Shore Oahu, Hawaii, by long time Hawaii professional photographer Bill Romerhaus. It is also initialed in the lower corner by the photographer which you can see on this sample photo.
A light rain and the rainbow are a sign of good luck in the Hawaiian culture.
It is also a little grainy as it was shot on 35mm Velvia transparency film, but it is still a beautiful scenic and artistic image. It was featured in our twice award winning book, "Haleiwa: A Pictorial History" available at our e-Bay store. This is one of our more popular images and has been featured in the new top rated CBS TV series 'Hawaii 50' as background artwork.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes this area or scenic rainbow images of Hawaii. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
Waimea Bay is home to one of the largest surf breaks in the world and these Waimea shorebreak waves are some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of the ocean's mightiness. Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome and unforgettable experience. This photo was taken between swells as the surf was beginning to rise to forty feet later on during the day.

:
e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen may make the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. The color hues may look slightly different and may have a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. Please be aware of this.
**When it is cropped and attached to the single mat 8x10" board you will be able to see the backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a margin (which you can see if you look at the photo) around the print.
An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using an archival photo adhesive and cannot be easily removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. If you want to use a larger frame and can't figure out how to do it with the photo mounted on the backing board, contact us and we can explain how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10 inch frame and displaying the image as is.

This copyrighted 8x10 inch giclee print was shot by professional surfing, and stock photographer Bill Romerhaus, of North Shore Photography, who has been shooting surfing and scenics since 1967. He is one of a very few photographers in the world who specializes in hand printing original black & white waves and surfing for many years in his darkroom (we sell a lot of smaller prints on e-Bay), and now offers his color images too.  This print will fit in a standard 8x10 inch frame. For the most impressive artistic impact we suggest using a 11 x14 inch custom matted frame. We also include a caption label with photography information on the back of the photo.
Bill has lived in Hawaii for over 50 years. In 1965 he shot his first surfing photo and was a contributing photographer to Surfer, Surfing, and other magazines for several years. In 1983, he started NORTH SHORE PHOTOGRAPHY, specializing in black & white professional darkroom services, after attaining the status as a master black & white printer and film processor for professional clients island wide. He also worked as a contributing photographer to over 30 international surfing magazines and manufacturers, and as a photojournalist for over 100 publications and agencies worldwide.
His photos have credited him with over 200 cover shots and full page advertisements. His work has appeared in Popular Photography, Shutterbug, American Photographer, Shape, Men's Fitness, Surfing, Surfer, Honolulu, Aloha, Honolulu Star-Bulletin & Advertiser newspapers, Outdoor, Outside, Conde Nast Traveler.  Professional clients include American Express, Vogue International, Hilton Hotels, Hawaiian Tropic, Aloha & Hawaiian Airlines, etc. He was also a contributing photographer for over 40 years to The North Shore News, in Haleiwa.. He now specializes in printing historic and nostalgic images of Hawaii (aka NOSTALGIC PHOTOS HAWAII) from the thousands of photos he has produced and collected as a professional photographer in the past four decades living in Hawaii, and selling his award winning photo history book "Haleiwa: A Pictorial History". The images are very popular to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii. He is currently represented by Getty Images, one of the world's largest photo archives and most prestigious stock agency. Prints are copyrighted and the images are not to be used for commercial, promotional use, or reproduced without our written permission. Please inquire if you have questions.
