This is one of our more popular photos at point of purchase displays here in Hawaii. It is also featured in our twice award winning photo history book "Haleiwa: A Pictorial History" available at our e-Bay store. We're proud to mention that many of our photos including this one were used as background artwork in the new CBS television network series "Hawaii 5-0".
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes this area or historic building images of Hawaii.
They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
Fujioka Store began as a plantation market in the late 1880’s. This was one of the last remaining old Waialua businesses and was located northwest from the mill on east Puuiki Street. It was built in the ‘plantation’ style architecture of the late 1800’s. Groceries, sundries, general merchandise, and gasoline were sold there. It had a little bit of everything plantation workers needed. Ryutano Fujioka managed the operation and then bought it in 1905. Nine family members were born in the store and most of the family worked there seven days a week. In 1951 Tsutomu and his brother Norman began managing the operation. It was one of the last Japanese generational stores that existed. The family opened a second larger store in Waialua town near the old First Hawaiian Bank building. Known as the ‘Waialua Store’, and it burned down mysteriously in 1972 and the owners went back to the old store under the banyan tree near Puuiki Street. In 1985 Gregg, Lyle, and Norman opened “Fujioka’s Supermarket” in Haleiwa town (in the building that formerly housed “Kit’s Supermarket”) on Kam Highway. In 1997 the original Puuiki Street store went out of business shortly after the Waialua Sugar Company mill closed. In 2003 the Kam highway location was sold and in 2004 was doing business as Malama Market.
Our original photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii. Prices are less than you would pay retail at a gallery and production costs are lower than most folks so we want to offer affordable quality art for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it. Some of the prints will probably increase in value over time. We also offer color photos printed on digital archival photographic paper and Giclee prints on canvas to large mural sizes.
We feel we are preserving and promoting the history and culture of Hawaii to Kama'aina, visitors, and other folks at a reasonable price to display or share with others.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE:
e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen may make the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. The color hues may look slightly different and may have a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen.
**When it is attached to the single mat backing board you will be able to see the the dark green backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a thin margin around the photo and it is cropped to fit an 8x10 inch backing board which looks a little different than the one you see here. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using an archival photo adhesive and cannot be easily removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. If you want to use a larger frame and can't figure out how to do it with the photo mounted on the backing board, contact us and we can explain how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10 inch frame and displaying the image as is. We want to make sure you know what you are buying so we hope our thorough description of these photos will answer all your questions before you purchase.
