This very fine quality Ames Sword Company Virginia Military Institute engraved cadet sword with V.M.I on one side & T. C. Gordon on other side belonged to Cadet Thomas Croxton Gordon, class of 1904, Virginia National Guard & U.S. Army in World War One.                                                                                     This sword is 36 ¼” long with a 29 ¾” x ¾” double edged straight blade that is engraved on both sides.                                                                                   Right side laurel branches with leaves T C. Gordon & more laurel branches & leaves..
Left side laurel branches with leaves V. M. I. with sun rays on either end & more laurel branches with leaves & AMES SWORD Co. CHIPPOEE MASS.                 near the guard.
The brass double clamshell design guard has an
American eagle with arrows and 3 flags on poles on either side on the right side & the Federal Shield in front of a stand of colors on the faces on the left side..                                                                                           The grip is white bone carved into horizonal lines & a brass fennel on the front.                                                                            The Pommel cap has an American eagle on one side & the federal shield on the other side.
It is in very good condition with the blade still shiny & the engraving clear & easy to read.                                                              There appears to be an old slight repair to the grip/pommel area of this sword.
The scabbard is iron with a single ring & no throat & is in good condition without any dents or dings.
It comes with a certificate of authenticity, a hand written history when I bought it & historical research.
