Description

This is a fair, older quality but classic hand printed silver halide photograph, (not a digital inkjet print) custom printed in a darkroom from a copy negative from the original, archivally developed in chemistry on Ilford 'Pearl' surface semi-matte surface black & white photographic paper, cropped, and mounted on an 8x10 inch backing board which
includes a  margin NOTE***( background matt colors may be different) that you can see here
(see photo), of the luxury cruise liner 'Mariposa' at Honolulu Harbor docked near Aloha Tower, Honolulu, Hawaii 1931+. It is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage (you can see it in the photo) and has preservation tips included in the label on the back along with an extensive history of the vessel.
The Matson luxury ocean liner Mariposa  was one of three (& Lurline & Matsonia) designed for passenger service by Matson Lines. Built by Bethlehem Shipbuilding Corporation at Fore River Shipyard she was launched in 1931 by Matson Lines. Primarily used in the Pacific Ocean including regular stops in ports along the West Coast of the United States, Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji, New Zealand and Australia. In her heyday she was a fine example of the romantic luxury liner and was well known in Hawaii carrying tourists, servicemen, and local people across the Pacific Ocean in the bygone era of the nostalgic aloha spirit of Hawaii.
Please note that it has some
minor imperfections
, a glare spot in the upper left corner, and the white sticker is on the shrink wrap. It is from a very old photo that looks grainier than a digital photo but a nice historical image.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes historic maritime images of Hawaii, old Honolulu street scenes. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
Our hand printed silver halide gelatin original and reproduction photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii.
The photos are the 'old style' traditional film based images printed using an enlarger from a negative on real photographic paper and archivally processed by hand, not by a machine.

PLEASE ALSO NOTE
:
e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen makes the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. This photo is printed on semi-matte 'pearl' surface paper and the photo offered has more gray tones, deep, richer blacks, less contrast, and has the unique look of a real silver halide gelatin print, which has a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. Please be aware of this. You may be able to see small imperfections on larger images as these are printed by hand 'as is' and are not retouched. We do however try to crop and correct them so they look best. It is printed on 8x10 inch paper from a copy negative and margins may be slightly trimmed. **When it is cropped and attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a margin around the edges of the photo which you can see here.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using archival photo adhesive and cannot easily be removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo. If you want to use a larger frame and mat and you can't find an experienced framer who knows how to do it, contact us and we can provide information explaining how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10" frame and displaying the image as is.
