    Description

Your bid is for the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society BULLETIN No. 82, with a publication date of April 1951, and with Charles E. Fisher as Editor and President. This digest-sized soft cover book measures 15.5 by 22.9 cm and contains 88 pages, plus the wraps, plus 23 unpaginated glossy photo pages, printed on one side only, that can be a photo or a drawing. Which means 109 pages of information as the rear two are blank. The cover drawing of Bridgton & Harrison No.8 was done by M.B. Wakefield and rates a paragraph on the editor's page. Mr. Fisher would be delighted with 2 foot gauge doings down in Maine in 2014. THE GRAVITY RAILROAD OF THE DELAWARE & HUDSON CANAL COMPANY by G.M. Best is an 18 page article by one of rail history's most respected authors of all time here in the U.S., and you won't be disappointed in this work. In addition to the meticulously researched text, there are a dozen photo pages, with excellent reproduction, plus a foldout map and a companion foldout grade chart. A throughly enchanting work showing vehicles and operating characteristics seldom, if ever, matched in the Americas! Who says trains can't go down mountains! THE PEORIA AND OQUAWKA RAILROAD by A. W. Newton covers the early history of this Illinois line on 8 pages of text. The story begins in 1837 and ends in 1864 when the road became a permanent part of the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy Railroad Company. A RAIL FAN ON FOOT is the title of this seemingly innocuous article by C.O. Egerton ... but hold on... this is 10-page piece on the HAMPDEN RAILROAD northeast of Springfield, Massachusetts. This little pike is, to me, the most curious of all railroad construction ever perpetrated in all of New England. The construction was superb, and much still stands, and the railroad was completed, including psgr depots ready for occupancy, and never used. Why? Theories abound, facts do not exist. Often written about, this article contains drawings on slick photographic paper by the author that will be found no place else. If you love New England history, this book is for you. Also included is a foldout map by the author. VIRGINIA ANTEBELLUM RAILROAD EQUIPMENT by Charles W. Turner covers 14 pages and includes extensive footnotes. THE RAILROADS OF MCKEAN COUNTY (PA) by C.F.H. Allen starts off with the Pittsburg, Shawmut & Northern; Kinzua Creek and Kane and progresses to Kinzua and Tiona; Kane and Elk; Elk and Highland; Portage Creek and Rich Valley; Keystone; and, lastly, Potato Creek. What great names! Covering 11 pages, including a map, PLUS 6 more photo pages on slick paper. AN OLD ROGERS LOCOMOTIVE? by F. Achard covers 4 pages with text and a slick drawing of same as we revisit 1837. THE BOSTON AND MT. DESERT LIMITED, described in a September 1888 edition of The Pathfinder as the fastest train in New England, is detailed in a page and a quarter. Worth Reading, New Books, a report of the R&LHS Annual Meeting and In Memory Of seven departed members wrap up this fine book. This book is in excellent, museum-quality condition.
Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous buyer. Thank you for reading.
