    Description

Your bid is for the Railway and Locomotive Historical Society BULLETIN No. 84, with a publication date of October 1951, and with Charles E. Fisher as Editor and President. This digest-sized soft cover book measures 15.4 by 22.9 cm and contains 80 pages, plus the wraps, plus 23 unpaginated glossy photo pages, printed on one side only that can be a photo or a drawing, including 2 that make up a foldout map. That makes 100 pages with information as the last 3 pages in the book are blank. The cover drawing of Bridgton & Harrison No.8 was done by M.B. Wakefield and is a repeat from No.82, but that one was blue and this one is done in brown. THE BELLINGHAM BAY & BRITISH COLUMBIA RAILROAD COMPANY by Fred Jukes, Philip Van Wyck and Bruce B. Cheever, begins in what was to become Bellingham, Washington, in December 1852, and proceeds from there over 18 pages of history and equipment rosters, plus a foldout map, and 13 photographs, and a locomotive drawing, a profile chart, a time table reproduction from June 1, 1907, and a listing of stations with mileage from Bellingham and siding capacities. The photos are most interesting with locomotives ranging from critter-sized 0-6-0's to fair-sized Consolidations. And there is a fine photo of the McKeen Motor Car. THE ITHACA - AUBURN SHORT LINE by John D. Denney, Jr., is the story of the New York, Auburn and Lansing Railroad Company designed as a direct route from the New York Central at Auburn NY to the city of Ithaca, known far and wide as the home of Cornell University. The line was 36 miles long and operated steam trains, gasoline motor cars and trolley cars. This article tells all over 11 pages, including a roster of steam and electric motive power and the two McKeen Motor Cars, a mileage listing, and a most interesting listing of grades on the line which reached 2.55% north of Renwick bridge. There are 8 photos, again a nice broadside of a McKeen Car, and two timetable reproductions and a bibliography. The last train ran 31 October 1923. THE SAVOR OF OLD-TIME SOUTHERN RAILROADING, A Choice from Workingmen's Memoirs, edited by Jesse C. Burt, Jr. fills 10 pages with memories and related footnotes from the OLD GUARD CLUB of the Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway concerning railroading on that line during 1850-60. A roster of locomotives of that period is included. Great stuff... LOCOMOTIVES OF THE BUFFALO, ROCHESTER & PITTSBURGH RY. by Chas. E. Fisher are introduced over 2 plus pages of text, and then follows 6 more pages of the roster itself. Plus there are 8 photographs. THE SCRANTON, DUNMORE & MOOSIC LAKE RAILROAD by F. Stewart Graham was a 9 mile steam railroad of standard gauge extending from Dunmore, near Scranton, Pennsylvania, to the summer resort of Moosic Lake. The railroad opened on 30 May 1903, suffered a cornfield meet on 13 September 1909, and that was the end. Read the details here on 3 pages and enjoy the fine photo of DL&W Camel No.217. And, oh, yes, the Scranton Street Railway System resurrected the route and ran it from 1911 to 1925. May we hope for a similar rebirth soon? THE NORTHERN CROSS R.R. by Chas. E. Fisher is 2.3 pages of additional information on this road from BULLETIN No.81. Worth Reading, New Books, obituaries for Albert William Newton and Frank J. Peterson, and In Memory of 6 members who have passed on, finish this edition. This book is in excellent, museum-quality condition.
