    Description

    Russian Empire, Medal for Subjugation of Kokand Khanate in 1875-76, OLD REPRODUCTION.
    Made in copper (“dark bronze”), measures 28.5 mm wide; weighs 8.7 grams. This replica is of very nice quality! It has very well-executed details and correct aged appearance with convincing looking patina. Moreover, to make it even more convincing, there is an obvious “repair” to the eyelet to make it look as if it was broken and then reattached.
    Of course, the medal differs from the original in many small details, but it can easily fool even an experienced collector who is not very careful. High-quality fakes like this one are often sold as originals. This particular medal was acquired by an American collector in Moscow in the early 90s, so it is now at least 30 years old! This just goes to show that age or patina alone do not guarantee in any way that the medal is real!
