    Description

Your bid is for a National Railway Historical Society, Inc., Connecticut Valley Chapter, Inc., TRANSPORTATION BULLETIN, No. 75, dated July-December 1967; January-December 1968. This hardbound book measures a standard-sized 21.8 by 28.6 cm and contains 42 pages plus the end wraps and hard covers. THE SHELBURNE FALLS AND COLRAIN STREET RAILWAY by Roger Borrup fills 31 pages of this publication with 27 photos and other illustrations, plus a fold out 1/4 inch scale drawing of car No. 10 "The Big Car". You can ride No. 10 at the Shelburne Falls Trolley Museum in Buckland, Massachusetts, on weekends and holidays Memorial Day thru October 1100-1700, pandemic permitting. The 7-mile SF&CStRy was built in 5 months in the construction season of 1896 and opened on 01 November of that year with Car No. 10 and a converted horsecar or two. In 1908 the now-famous Bridge of Flowers across the Deerfield River was built and the first standard railroad freight car hauled by the new combination car No. 25 went over the river and thru the woods to Colrain on 31 May 1909. Operations continued until the summer of 1927 when the road was abandoned for numerous reasons and all equipment burned except No. 10, which was given to a local farmer who used it for a storage shed, chicken house and playhouse for over 60 years. Few rural trolley companies have been so well documented and we are most fortunate that this was done four decades ago when some former employees were still living. For those of us at the SFTM, this book is our "Old Testament" and our current operating rule book is the "New Testament". Come along now for the ride. GREEN MOUNTAIN RAILROAD CORP. by the late Donald S. Robinson (Robby) fills pages 33-41 with the story of this Rutland Railroad remnant running from Rutland to Bellows Falls, Vermont. Included are reproductions of train orders and FORM A, a map, and 13 photographs which I believe were all taken by DSR who was well known for his photographic skills. And, like the SF&CStRy No. 10, you can ride the Green Mountain from Bellows Falls to Chester in the summer of 2008. This book is in excellent, museum-quality condition.
Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous buyer. Thank you for reading.
