Description
Soviet Medal for Distinguished Labor. The medallion is made in Solid Sterling Silver and fine quality enamel; measures 32.0 mm wide and weighs 16.1 grams not including the suspension and connecting link.
This is a GUARANTEED 100% ORIGINAL medal made by the Soviet Mint and officially awarded by the Soviet Government, not a recent replica or a post-Soviet issue!
The medal was usually bestowed for outstanding performance – like overachieving work quota - over a period of many years. Some were awarded during the war (although WW2 version had a serial number on the reverse) but most were issued in the post-war years. This award was quite hard to earn, and this was considered a high state decoration as opposed to lower level awards bestowed by industries, local authorities or particular enterprises. The recipient would receive numerous privileges for life!
The medal is in EXCELLENT CONDITION. The red enamel on the hammer and sickle emblem and the letters is perfect, without any chips, flaking, or scratches. Both the obverse and reverse show only very light wear, no significant dings or deep scratches. The details of the lettering are very well defined and crisp. There are no edge knocks or bumps. There is very nice, even toning to silver which adds character.
The medal comes on an ORIGINAL suspension device in brass of late 1940s - 1950s vintage. The old, probably original ribbon is well preserved and its colors are still bright. The connecting link between the medal and suspension is original and has not been cut.
This great looking, historic Soviet medal has about half an ounce of silver!
It can be a great addition to any collection of medals or Cold War memorabilia.
