    Description

Your bid is for the March 1945 issue of TRAINS Magazine, which is Volume 5, Number 5. This digest-sized issue measures 17.4 by 25.9 cm and contains 48 pages with A.C. Kalmbach doing CONTENT and Linn H. Westcott in charge of PRESENTATION. Both are equally important when it comes to selling magazines.  The cover shows The B&O's Capitol Limited near Havre De Grace, Maryland, from the forthcoming book, Highball, by Lucius Beebe. ACK gives us the lowdown on a very tough winter and news of Baldwin's first road Diesel locomotive. WHISTLES is a 2 page feature that explains that subject in considerable detail from a signaling angle and not from a mechanical one. Standards signals are all explained. SOUTHERN PACIFIC by Richard Houghton covers that road with the definitive exposition it commands over 18 pages with a wonderful Linn H. Westcott relief map and a company photo of the Oakland Mole. "The Friendly Railroad" is still throwing its weight around in the year 2015 according to my West Coast contacts. Every SP historian and rider will want to read this piece. There are 19 photos overall of this fallen flag road that you are not likely to find elsewhere. A boomer DS called me from Fort Worth a few years ago to say the SP was the best road he ever worked for. Read this article and decide for yourself. DREAMS OF EMPIRE by William Forsythe tells you in 6 pages what you needed to do to get ICC permission to build your railroad. This aspect of railroading hasn't changed much! Today's investors and railroaders have come to realize that the franchise is the railroad. CSX has perhaps the greatest under-utilized railroad franchise in the world. NEW HAVEN POWER is a "Complete photographic review of this road's 731 locomotives". Well, not 731 photographs, but would you settle for 33 covering 9 pages??? NYNH&H modelers take note! This is steam, diesel and electric. This issue makes a grand New Haven power album. Before and after photos of the stations at Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, occupy page 42. Full-page ads this month by AAR, CB&Q, B&M, SP, UP and GN with interesting half-pagers by Grahame H. Hardy and LIMA selling its Allegheny types. This magazine is in excellent, museum-quality condition.
Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous buyer. Thank you for reading.
