Description
Your bid is for the
March 1946 issue of TRAINS Magazine, which is Volume 6, Number 5. This
digest-sized publication measures 17.5 by 26.0 cm and contains 56 pages with
A.C. Kalmbach as Editor & Publisher. The cover is the Lucin Cutoff over the
Great Salt Lake in a Southern Pacific photo. I've got a little piece of that
trestle in my bookcase as a R&LHS souvenir. In RN&EC: The New Trains
are Coming; New Canadian Pacific Herald; Detroit Station Being Rebuilt; Rock
Island Cutoff in Use; New Haven orders 180 psgr cars; Propose Merger of Katy,
C&EI and CGW. TRAINFOLK ON THE ERIE by Linn H. Westcott is subtitled: From
a passenger's notebook after riding 999 miles by coach over the Erie during the
historic Christmas rush of 1945. This fascinating piece covers 12 pages and
includes 10 photos. If you loved the Erie, or ride Amtrak today, you'll want to
read this! SCHEDULES DON'T JUST HAPPEN by John F. Boose explains over 4 pages,
along with a map and 2 photos, the difficulties of arranging schedules. The
centerfold is 3 photos: Bellefonte Central, The Chief climbing 3.5% Raton and
the Virginia & Truckee. The first by Beebe, the others by Clegg. THE GREEN
MOUNTAIN ROUTE by Frederick C. Thorne, M.D., is the Rutland Railroad story spread
over 8 pages and including a small map, 10 photos, and a complete locomotive
roster (still all steam). D&RGW MOTIVE POWER is a staff piece covering 9
pages with 22 photos and captions ranging from Challengers to 44 Tonners to the
Narrow Gauge Mikes. Short pieces and Railroad Mail complete this issue. Full
page ads by AAR, SP, M&St.L, FRISCO, ERIE, UP and PRR. This magazine is in
excellent condition, but does show moderate spine wear. It will be just fine if
handled with care. Your satisfaction guaranteed. Please see my other eBay
auctions for more rare and scarce railroad paper. I provide personal service
without silly eBay games like waiting for payment before shipping, mandated
payment methods, clumsy communications and charging for return shipping. Please
check my feedback and DSR's. Everything I sell is POSTPAID USA, so the winning
bid is what you pay, plus eBay’s state tax if applicable, unless you want
special services. I normally ship first day after auction ends IF I have a
payment plan & a proper shipping address, or you are a recent previous
buyer. Thank you for reading. Alden Dreyer, 91 Reynolds Road, Shelburne MA
