US ARMY BOMBERS WAIKIKI 11 X 14" PHOTO HAND PRINTED SILVER HALIDE PHOTO

Description

This is a nice (last hand printed one)  but older looking quality (looks sharper than sample) hand printed silver halide photograph,  custom printed in a darkroom from a copy negative from an original print obtained from an archive, hand developed in chemistry on Ilford 'Pearl' surface semi-matte surface black & white photographic paper,
cropped, and mounted on a single 11X14 inch backing board **which is included as part of the print that you can see here (see photo)
with caption and photography information on the back. ***Note: There is a small crease at the bottom left edge of the mat, you can see if you look closely.

a US Army Air Force B-18 light bomber squadron 193

(?) over Diamond Head Crater and Waikiki Beach Hawaii. It was taken by the military air recon 18th Air group at Wheeler Field, the bombers were most likely based at Hickam Field, near Pearl Harbor. Not much else known about the photo. (Some people suggest that it was produced by the military (not by us) in the darkroom for propaganda publicity purposes by sandwiching two negatives? and it also appeared on an invitation to a Christmas party at the Wheeler Air Base Officers Club? in the late 1930's).
The original was
shot with a professional copy stand and equipment on black and white negative film,
and is a little grainy when enlarged from the 35mm negative but looks very nice
. Included is a separate caption label with specific information about the photo that can later be displayed separately with the print or affixed to the back.  This one is pretty rare and we will probably never hand print again in this size on double weight fiber based paper.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes Waikiki Beach, military, or historic aviation images of Hawaii. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
