    Description

This is a beautiful quality, slightly grainy, surrealistic giclee photo of a 20 foot Waimea Bay shorebreak wave from an original Velvia transparency, cropped, and mounted on a 8x10 inch backing board which is included as part of the print,
(**the white margin is part of the print and not a mat cutout, see photo
), Haleiwa, north Oahu, Hawaii by longtime Hawaii professional surfing photographer Bill Romerhaus. It is also a little grainy as it was shot on film  and does not look as sharp as a digital photo, please be aware of this, but it is still a very nice artistic image. It is initialed 'BR' in gold metallic ink, shrink wrapped to protect it from damage, and has photography info and preservation tips included in the label on the back. Waimea Bay is one the largest surf breaks in the world. It is also home of the Eddie Aikau Memorial Big Wave Surfing contest only held when the waves are at least 25 foot high. Waimea shorebreak waves are some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of the ocean's mightiness. This 20 foot high wave is breaking in water only about four feet deep. It has been said that one wave this size if harnessed for energy could provide enough electrical power to light a thousand homes for over an hour. Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome, humbling, and unforgettable experience.
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes surfing, waves or ocean images of Hawaii. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
We're proud to mention that many of our photos are being used as background artwork in the new CBS television network series "Hawaii 5-0". Our original photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii and production costs are lower than most folks so we want to offer affordable quality art for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it. We feel we are preserving and promoting the history and culture of Hawaii to Kama'aina, visitors, and other folks at a reasonable price to display or share with others. With proper care it the manufacturer says it should last many years without fading if you carefully follow display instructions included on the label on the back of the print. It is also available in 20x30 inch size unmounted.

    PLEASE ALSO NOTE:
e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen may make the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. The color hues may look slightly different and may have a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. It is also a little grainy as it was shot on 35mm Velvia transparency film. **When it is cropped and attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the borders of the print. It makes the print look like there is a black margin around the edges of the photo (which you can see if you look at the photo,
***the white margin is part of the print and not a mat cutout)
. An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using archival photo adhesive and cannot be easily removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. If you want to use a larger frame and can't figure out how to do it with the photo mounted on the backing board, contact us and we can explain how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10 inch frame and displaying the image as is.
