***NOTE- MOST PRINTS ARE MUCH SHARPER, WITH BETTER COLOR & SATURATION. WE ARE HAVING AN EBAY CAUSED ERROR: POOR SHARPNESS, COLOR, & RESOLUTION PROBLEMS WITH THE PHOTO YOU SEE HERE. IT IS GOING TO TAKE A WHILE FOR EBAY TO FIX THIS PROBLEM - SORRY. WE ARE VERY UNHAPPY ABOUT THIS!This is a popular shrinkwrapped quality giclee photo
cropped to fit an 8x10 inch mat **which includes black margins
, from an original hand colored black and white photo by longtime Hawaii professional photographer Bill Romerhaus with caption, history, and photography information on a label on the back. It is from an original black and white photo that was hand colored by the photographer and copied to a 35mm Velvia transparency, scanned, printed on Epson premium glossy photo paper with archival inks, cropped and mounted on a single 8x10 inch backing board (see photo) of Waimea Bay beach during large surf on the north shore, 1978.
The forty foot plus waves were washing over the beach and down the berm into the Waimea valley rivermouth (estuary). Body boarders were able to stand on the beach and ride the whitewater as it ran down the backside of the beach toward the bridge. The foamy water was going all the way to the parking lot on this exceptionally big day. You could feel the thunderous booms of the giant waves on the beach! The original black and white was featured on the inside cover of the Honolulu Advertiser newspaper.
It is shrink wrapped to protect it from damage and has photography and preservation tips included in the label on the back.
It is a nice artistic photo though and looks almost like it was painted with a brush or surrealistic, which is the effect we wanted. Please be aware of this.
It was featured in our award winning photo history book: "Haleiwa: A Pictorial History" available at our e-Bay store.
Waimea Bay is home to one the largest surf breaks in the world. It is also the site of the Eddie Aikau Memorial Big Wave Surfing contest only held when the waves are at least 25 foot high. Waimea shorebreak waves are some of the most powerful on earth, generated by far distant North Pacific Ocean storms during the winter months (Sept-March). They are an incredible example of the ocean's mightiness. Native Hawaiians, surfers, and a lot of oriental people consider these magnificent waves to be a supreme example of power and manifested with the spirit of mother nature. To actually see these waves breaking along the shoreline is an awesome, rare, humbling, and unforgettable experience.
We're proud to mention that many of our photos including this one wereused as background artwork in the CBS television network series "Hawaii 5-0".
It would make a great birthday or holiday gift for someone who likes this area or historic images of Hawaii. They are popular reasonably priced decorations for restaurants, offices, homes, or stores where people can see them.
Our original photos are very popular and affordable to local people and tourists visiting Hawaii, as well as people who have never visited Hawaii. Prices are less than you would pay retail at a gallery or custom photo lab for a hand printed and mounted silver halide black and white print and production costs are lower than most folks so we want to offer affordable quality art for people who might not otherwise be able to afford it. We feel we are preserving and promoting the history and culture of Hawaii to Kama'aina, visitors, and other folks at a reasonable price to display or share with others.

e-Bay's transfer process and the computer screen may make the photo look contrasty and slightly darker or lighter, depending on your monitor brightness and contrast settings. The color hues may look slightly different and may have a different tonal range and brightness than you may see on your individual computer screen. Please be aware of this.
**When it is attached to the single mat 8x10" backing board you will be able to see the backing board around the margins of the print which you can see if you look at the photo.
An 11x14 inch frame (or larger) with a custom cut mat from a frame shop or art store is the suggested way to display this photo.
Prints are permanently mounted to the acid free backing board using archival photo adhesive and cannot be easily removed from the backing board without damaging the photo. If you want to use a larger frame and can't figure out how to do it with the photo mounted on the backing board, contact us and we can explain how it can be done. This is recommended for best visual and artistic impact in displaying this photo, although many people are happy using a standard 8x10 inch frame and displaying the image as is.
