~ Original US Military Wooden Ammo Crate for M1903 Springfield, Frankford Arsenal ~ From Bannerman's Island Arsenal or W. Stokes Kirk in Philadelphia where my Grandfather got it filled with parts back in the 1950s. The crate was made whole using two sides from another crate just like it. The top is correct. This crate was repurposed by the armory to hold 225 bolt bodies for the M1898 Krag.
The stencils on both sides indicate it's original purpose was as an ammo crate. It says "1200 Ball Cartridges Model 1906 For Model 1903 Rifle Cal .30 2(VRO?) Powder Frankford Arsenal. Both ends have stencils. One end has "225 Bolts M98 New" this end is also complete with the wing nuts used for quick access to the ammo. The other end has a stencil for 9th Infantry Regiment Company L with the crossed rifles. These crates are getting harder to find even in this condition. I suppose I don't need to say but just for the sake of it, It is EMPTY.
With a little cleaning and preservation work this would be a great display piece for any US Martial Collector!
*NOTE:
You get the exact crate photographed.
